The best pizza in Vancouver is at Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company in Kitsilano.
What makes it excellent:
- Stalwart philosophy of organic, fresh, local, natural. Everything you eat here is house-made with the best ingredients. You don’t need to worry about what’s in your food as it’s all good stuff.
- The flatbread is a crispy, chewy crust baked in a wood fired oven. My favourite is organic beef pepperoni, brown mushrooms, and fresh herbs. Expect pizza toppings like sundried tomato and goat cheese, or chicken, pesto, and roasted red peppers.
- Amazing salads. My go-to is the basil blackberry salad, filled with (predictably) basil, blackberries, mangoes, mushrooms, and crisp lettuces.
- Flatbread dips. You can order flatbread on its own with dipping sauce. The roasted red pepper dip is divine.
- Pastas. The restaurant features a daily pasta special plus a curried vegetable lasgana and an excellent beef lasagna.
- Desserts. Rocky Mountain delivers all the way to dessert. Their double chocolate brownies with ice cream? mmmmm.
- Family friendly. The Kitsilano location regularly has pizza-making lessons for kids in the kitchen and there’s a kids play area in the restaurant. The reststaurant also features monthly “Green Talks” offering different talks around the topic of sustainability.
- Carbon neutral. The restaurant charges an optional 1% carbon tax on meals, which goes towards offseting carbon emissions from your meal. They remove this charge on request. (I suppose this would not be a good thing to some of you, but I think it’s fitting with the restaurant’s goals).
I believe Rocky Mountain Flatbread operates on a franchise basis, so I will vouch for the Kitsilano location, and hope that the Canmore, AB and North Vancouver locations meet the same standards.
This is well-made, good quality eating.
