Yaletown Eats: Rodney’s Oyster House

November 25th, 2009 · No Comments

I don’t go to Rodney’s Oyster House often, but when I do there’s always a lot of drinking and eating (and money!) involved.

Case in point: last Friday night – myself and a few friends went to Rodney’s for some eats and to decompress from the busy work week.

Four bottles of wine, a bunch of caesars, and a whole lot of Kushi oysters later, we were happy.

Highlights:

  • First, make reservations if you can – this place is always hopping. We were seated right away with our reservation, but we arrived at 9pm on a Friday night and there was still a 30 minute wait.
  • Fresh, fresh, fresh. Everything served at Rodney’s tastes incredible because it’s good quality and fresh tasting. On our night the Kushi oysters from Japan were the best and we ate about 30 of them.
  • In addition to the fresh oysters, we shared steamed mussels, perfectly fried oysters, and crab cakes. The menu is small, but executed well and focused on chowders and seafood.
  • Service is welcoming, casual, fun and there’s always a constant murmur of conversation through the restaurant. There’s no pretension here, just good times.

It wasn’t a cheap night, but it was a great night and I’ll remember the taste of those oysters for awhile. Yum.
