West End Eats: La Brasserie

September 5th, 2010 · 2 Comments

I wish La Brasserie was around when I lived in the West End – it’s a down to earth neighbourhood bistro with a hearty menu of rich Franco-German cuisine. Can’t say I have ever been to a Franco-German restaurant before this one, but doesn’t the idea sound awesome? Take the best classic French bistro dishes [...]

Cambie Street Eats: Stella’s Tap and Tapas Bar

November 27th, 2009 · 1 Comment

After an inspiring evening at Pecha Kucha Vancouver (volume 9 – Elvy Del Bianco, David Duprey, and Vancouver 2010 design team were the best), the hubby and I strolled over to Stella’s on Cambie, the sister location to the original Commercial Drive outpost. Located in the former Tomato Cafe location, Stella’s looks nothing like its [...]

Commercial Drive Eats: Little Nest

November 18th, 2009 · No Comments

I just finished a write up on the awesome breakfast/lunch eatery Little Nest, just off of Commercial Drive (thanks to Mike D for the recommendation!). The food here is awesome. Fresh, local, organic, and well executed. While all types come to Little Nest, it’s a restaurant/cafe designed for kids and families as well. Scrambled eggs [...]

Main St. Eats and Drinks: Eight 1/2 restaurant and lounge

November 15th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Eight 1/2 took over the former SOMA location a while back, but it wasn’t high on my list to try. It came back on my radar after reading a favourable review in the Globe & Mail so I suggested it to my friends last week and off we went.  Overall, it’s a nice place. A [...]

Kitsilano Eats: Two neighbourhood bistros, Trafalgars Bistro and The Smoking Dog Bistro

October 27th, 2009 · No Comments

As a former, long-time Kitsilano resident, I frequented The Smoking Dog a lot. A friend recently moved in steps away from Trafalgars Bistro, so I’ve been eating there recently also.  I put both of these places in the category of neighbourhood bistro, which for me is a great place to have a nice drink/dinner that [...]

Downtown eats and brunch eats: Twisted Fork Bistro

September 11th, 2009 · No Comments

The development of Granville Street downtown has been an ongoing project for as long as I remember. When I used to live downtown, the only restaurant stop worth going to on the “sketchy” part of Granville (the strip South of Nelson) was the  excellent Templeton Diner, which continues to churn out good quality food in [...]

Kitsilano eats and sweets: DB Bistro Moderne

August 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

I’ve written about DB Bistro Moderne before, but I feel the need to write more. I have been to DB a few more times since my first blog write-up, and this restaurant is just excellent. Yet I was at the restaurant yesterday – a Saturday night – and the place was busy (2/3rds full), but [...]

Vancouver Good List: Restaurants worth (and not worth) the line-ups

June 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Certain restaurants in Vancouver are known for their line-ups. And when people see the line-ups, they figure it must be great so they get in line, then others do the same, and before you  know it? A line up down the block! Most restaurants are not worth that wait. Some are. Here’s what I think: [...]

Yaletown Eats: Hamilton Street Grill

June 14th, 2009 · 1 Comment

I’ve always loved the Hamilton Street Grill because they provide excellent food in an unpretentious room. No crazy Yaletown frills here, just good food and good service. My top two favourites : Hangar Steak and frites for $20. Amazing taste, great value (they also have New York, Tenderloin, and Filet Mignon cuts for more $$) [...]

Kitsilano / Kerrisdale Eats: Fish Cafe (Kitsilano location now closed)

June 3rd, 2009 · 2 Comments

I have walked by Fish Cafe hundreds of times , both on W. 41st in Kerrisdale, in their original Kits location on 4th, and in their current Kits location on Yew St. A month ago, I finally ate there and I can’t believe I waited to so long! Fish cafe is the ideal neighbourhood restaurant [...]
